How to share information with people who don't have Reunion.

Reunion family files can only be opened in Reunion. Thus, if you give your family file to somebody who does not own Reunion, he won't be able to use it. However, there are several ways you can share your information with others...

  1. Use Reunion's Reports > Book feature to create a PDF file that can be printed or shared electronically.
  2. Most reports can be created for the web. To see examples, click here. Reports can be uploaded to your personal web site, or you can share the report folder on Dropbox for family members to view. The reports are viewable using any modern web browser on any computer, Mac or Windows. Step-by-step instructions for sharing via Dropbox are at this page.
  3. Reports and charts can be saved as PDF files. When the report or chart window is open, choose File > Print and then choose Save as PDF from the PDF button.
  4. If you want to share your family file with someone who has an iPad or iPhone, you can send them your family file (or a subset of your family file) and they can view your data using ReunionTouch on their mobile device.
  5. You can create a multimedia slideshow containing pictures linked to everybody, or just pictures linked to marked people. You can save a standalone movie file of the slideshow, send the movie file to others, or upload it to your web site, Dropbox, Facebook, etc.
  6. All text reports can be shared. For example, a Register Report or Family History Report can be created in Rich Text Format (RTF) and then opened in your word processor.
  7. You can share a chart by moving it to Apple's Preview app and then saving it as a graphic file (i.e., JPEG, TIFF, or PNG). To do this, create the chart and choose File > Open in Preview from the Reunion menu bar.
  8. Reports, charts, and files of different types (RTF, PDF, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, etc.) can be emailed or shared via a file-sharing service like Dropbox which others (Mac or Windows users) can open.
  9. If you want to share your raw data with somebody using another genealogy program (Mac or Windows) you can export a GEDCOM file (File > Export > GEDCOM).
